Welsh Cobs Diary 28 Feb 2010
Since the show, we have had jb checked out by the vet and he had an infection in his one hind hoof. Our vet sorted his hoof, but obviously he is a bit sore and tender on it. So no riding for a while. Took dream back down to the bottom field and brought amber up. Will get the vet to check her out, as she was slightly unlevel. Then start on her again !! Miss riding JB, love him so much. On Friday I went to watch Perry Wood doing a clinic in stocklands. Amazing !! He is into classical riding and I managed to watch 3 riders on Friday and went back on Saturday to watch another 3. Very good trainer and very sympathetic with his riders. I will try and get to one of his clinics next time he is around, and hopefully JB will be sound again to go. I was very sad with Dream's reaction to the show and Steve and I discussed it as I was going to start riding her again, but she was so stressed that I didnt want her to go through that every show. We have to make decisions about her, really, but for the time being she can be a broodmare ! :) I am trying to persuade my husband Peter that it might be nice to go off to Portugal to train classical riding as I was pretty fired up after watching the differences in the horses. I thought a lovely holiday and riding twice a day would be really beneficial for me. Well I was surprised that my poor suffering husband said that he would go with me !! yahoooo ! Just finding a nice place now. Pepper is in at night now - just for a week to get him used to a stable, and a little routine, and then do the same with Ginger and then Jazz. Pepper has settled very well so pleased with that. H

Great day yesterday, Saith Magical Dream, Sapphire and Saith Black Storm all turned up to the NPS area 25 show. All in the same class together and it was lovely to see. Small video on you Tube. Sapphire came 2nd / dream 3rd and storm 6th. Storm then went on to do the ridden and was 2nd in a large class of 13, and has qualified for the Champs !! Yahoo - way to go storm ! Dream was a nightmare ! She looked amazing on saturday and travelling her up to the show, she tucked and sweated horrendously. I could not get her dry in time for the class and she just didnt look the same, very disappointed. We had the whole ring and would have loved JB to have been there, he would have enjoyed that ! So nice having the whole ring to run around. Sapphire and Storm both did us proud and both really looked stunning. Lovely show, met loads of old friends and it was just wonderful to be there, bit sad because I wasnt riding, but the show went on and in a way I was glad that I wasnt ! Lucy with Storm got home at 6.15pm ! and I was 3 classes after her. We would have been home at 10 !! ahhh!! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 18 Feb 2010
What a week !!! Firstly on Monday, quiet day after the show and lightly lunged jb to get the kinks out of him, and lunged and play with Amber. Then Tuesday, went to roll the arena and tractor wouldnt start, so had to go home and get the starter. This was an ominous beginning for the day. Did the rolling and went and caught jb, tacked up and got on and started walking, then went into trot and he was lame, oh great. Got off and went and caught Amber, did the same, tacked up, down to the arena, did loads of walk work, and then into trot and she was unlevel. I couldnt believe it. Now really depressed because I would have liked to have shown on the weekend with jb, but not when he was like this. So he has been stable bound and is much better, but going to have his hooves x-rayed to make sure everything is ok. Then my chiriopractitioner is coming out on wednesday to go over him. Will get to the bottom of this. So wednesday comes and Im depressed struggling in the rain and steve phones, and I tell him whats happened, and he said we'll take Ginger - na couldnt do that to her, travelling on her own, washing socks in freezing water etc., Then he said, what about Dream ? I had totally forgotten dream as she is down with mum in the bottom field, and YES brilliant idea. Went and got her in the snow today (couldnt believe it was snowing) and swopped Amber for Dream so Coriander would be happy. Once the show is over, I shall get amber checked out and see why she was unlevel. Dream, as usual, was not amused to be washed down (stinking with mud) and dried and put into a stable. She was happy about the hay though :) Dream is totally unpredictable and is very highly strung, so the in hand showing should be fun. She either pulls faces all the way around, or bounces and jumps and kicks out ! She never stands LOL Depends on her mood at the time. Love her to bits though. So we are still on, now its depending on the weather, probably have loads of snow..... JB was not happy being in the stable, but I dont want to put him out in all the mud and stones if he has just bruised his hoof. Better to be safe than sorry. Its only for a couple of days then I can see what the vet says. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 15 Feb 2010
Here are Saith Johnnie Bach and myself at a show yesterday, we came 1st and reserve champion :) but only one in the class, good start to the showing year though. Bit of a rush as when we got there I had to get ready straight away, and JB had rolled and rolled all night by the looks of it, and was covered in mud. I managed to get most of it off, saddle and bridle on and changed while the judge was waiting for me. We didnt warm up, just straight in the class. Unfortunately there was cross country going on as well, which made him very excited. Managed to do a small You Tube video of him :) I need to lose some weight ! and try and improve my riding, and I keep telling JB to put up with me being so unbalanced too. ! He coped pretty well for the first show although did take off once with me, which was quite exciting. The judge was absolutely lovely and had a long chat to me about him. We still have a long way to go and enjoying the journey very much ! :) Steve's ankle was pretty bad once we got home, which made me feel guilty, so hope he's ok today. No laughing at the video ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 8 Feb 2010
Everyone is talking about snow again, oh I hope not. Had enough of it last time. Finally getting back into my stride riding. Johnnie was a bit full of himself when I brought him back into work but now is settling down and doing some lovely relaxed trots. Took him out for a hack on Saturday - it was so beautiful, and he was really good. Sunday did some work in the arena and today decided that our bottom field was firm enough for a gallop ! yahoooo !! Oh boy did he gallop. So funny I hung on for dear life as we shot up the field. He does love to gallop, so do I. :) Then we settled and did some training and back to the farm. He should be clipped now, but Im just so hopeless at it, tram lines all over the place. Cathy and jake came down yesterday and told me that Sebastian has been behaving superbly and all is well, and I had a box of chocolates and a bottle of sparklely ! oh very nice. So pleased he has found a home that he loves. Pepper has now become my best friend, follows me around like a dog at the moment. Not really sure why, but its fun and Ginger has her new rug on, courtesy of Seb, and my new waterproof sealskinz gloves came, oh they are very nice. So no more cold hands. Im just waiting now for my mountain horse winter riding boots and I should be really cwtch when riding. Steve went to Gibraltar playing darts this weekend, I havent heard what happened yet, but he should be back tomorrow, and I hope he did well. Just had the trailer sorted out, brakes checked etc., and so everything is now ready for our first show at nps 25. I would like to take Jb to start him off again, but I dont think Im going to get him fit enough for it, will try though, trouble is, getting him fit, he does tuck up a bit. But not being clipped, and full of himself, I dont think we'll have a look in :) Hey its a show though!! yahoo. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 31 Jan 2010
Said Goodbye to Saith Sebastian yesterday. Sad, but very happy moment, as Cathy and him are just meant for one another :) What a star he has been. Last weekend, Cathy and I did some trailer work with him (never been in a trailer) and JB was the good guy, walking in first standing, and then Seb following. It took us about half an hour for him to be comfortable walking in and out. Yesterday was fun ! I dont know if I have mentioned it before, but we have a mischievous ghost up there. Yes I kid you not !! There is always something going wrong, nothing serious, and when it all started I got so upset about it all - but now, you just think ok, just plod along. So back to yesterday, Seb's moving day. Cathy and I get up there and all the horses are on all fours ! My friend decided to go shooting in the morning and the horses get very excited when this is happening. I thought, ok here we go. If we can box Seb while he is excited, then Cathy will be able to box him anywhere. We hitched up and I moved forward and the two back wheels had suck ! One released when I moved, but the other was totally stuck. Luckily Mike was still there and he lifted the trailer and managed to unsuck the wheel - OK I thought, just another one of my ghost (harry) doing his fun bit. So trailer up - all partitions in and jb on and now Seb, he walked on like a pro and tied up and started eating his haynet. We set off really slowly with Steve driving, and he was brilliant - although JB is a very good traveller. So with harry in the car somewhere, we get to Cathy's place about 20 mins away, and as we are just unloading Seb, the hunt comes up behind him ! I just couldnt believe it. JB used to do alot of hunting, and bless him he started shaking and getting really excited, so we couldnt stay too long and of course, I was getting tearful. Told harry to get back in the car and come home with us. Cathy texted later and said he went out, with a friend and played and came back in really well, settled in the stable and this morning had laid down as straw in his tail. He actually neighed to Cathy when she got there ! Im so pleased as Cathy has been up as much as possible at our farm to get to know him and he would see her and come straight down from the field to say hi to his new mum. So I know the connection is strong between them. We will be getting new photos in about a week in his new home and will post them up on his page when they come. Went out for my best friends 50th last night, so not alot done today. Have bought some mountain horse stuff for the cold as I really am feeling it now, so hopefully with my new boots and gloves I should be able to start riding again. :) H

Welsh Cobs Diary 27 Jan 2010
Farrier came yesterday and did all of them - all 10 !! I should have just done 5 at a time, but 2 hours later all done. Moved Dream and Coriander back down to the winter field, probably snow again now LOL. Foals were great - opps yearlings I should say and all wormed yesterday as well. Sebastian will be off on Saturday to his new home and all at Saith Stud wish Cathy and Jake the very best of luck with him. He is going to be a very lucky boy ! As for the riding - ohh just too cold at the moment ! Got to get some more clothes on. Probably going to take Ginger to the show on 21st feb, as I really dont think Amber or jb will be fit enough, though Ill give it a go over the next couple of weeks. Would like to do the ridden instead of in hand, but Im just not good in cold weather ! lol Steve is having a lovely "warm" time, feet up and happy in this weather, it will be May once he can officially get back up the farm, and thats if everything is ok. Im keeping fingers crossed that it all heals right. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 21 Jan 2010
here is Pepper - ahh such a sweetie. Cant believe he's only just 8 months old. bless. Well Ive been really good, ridden amber every day and she is trying really hard. Not been ridden for 3 years and I just got on and wandered down the lane. Good as gold she was. Today we managed to get down the lane and half way up the other lane. Just go a bit further every day with her, letting her strengthen her back up slowly. JB has at last, calmed down. Did some fantastic slow work with him today, and he was so lovely and light in the mouth, munching away, and again (thank goodness) listening to me. Did no canter work and wont for a while now as it just freaked him out the other day, he went into gallop mode pretty quickly, so do alot of slow work and long and low to get him rounded - of course 100's of transitions and we should be getting back to where I left off before his holiday. Then I could canter him around the arena, without any reins and he would stay in canter. Unlike the other day when I sat quiet and gave him the rein, he was off ! lol It will come again, just a little time for him to remember. Everyone else is fine and pleased with how they are all coping with the winter. Our fields are now back to bog and the gateways are back to mud. They can come into the yard and into the barn to get out of it, but of course it doesnt help the fact that the mud sticks and we lose the lovely feathers. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 18 Jan 2010
Two new videos of Saith Black Pepper and Saith Magical Delight and Saith Magical Amber and a bit of the foals in the snow. When we video'd yesterday (Rob helped - the one doing the skydiving) he trotted around the arena and you could feel the power coming out of him. Just couldnt get that to come across on the video - it was wow ! Had my first ride in ages yesterday and JB was.. ummm a bit hyper ! Going to take Amber out for a very small hack today to get her back into it, and then ride JB again. Im hoping he will be a bit calmer, although it was alot of fun - he was bouncing around the arena like tigger. LOL It was such a lovely feeling to be riding again. Even though it was in the rain - I promised myself not to wimp out when its raining. Although we are going to have alot again soon, so the weather man says ! My poor video camera has had it now, been a good one for years - so will have to look for another one in the sales, and hopefully get a good bargain. Thanks must go to Lucy (owner of storm) Laura (who used to ride for us) and Cathy (owner of seb) for donating to see Rob do his leap of faith ! Web page ...Just Giving ... Robbie Davies. Thanks. Hope you enjoy the videos and nice comments only ! lol H

Welsh Cobs Diary 14 Jan 2010
Hi Im asking everyone that likes me or hates me or just loves our cobs to do a small favour for me ? My son (no.2) Rob is doing a skydive in March (how much cotton wool can I get by then!) and its in memory of his grandfather, Dr. Ken Davies, who founded a Welsh based charity Cancer Research Wales. Obviously doing research into cancer - they have a web page if anyone wants to check them out. He is jumping to raise money for them. The charity is doing some articles on him for the local newspaper etc., I thought it would be lovely if I could get some of my friends to give a small amount on his Just Giving page - online - under Robbie Davies. Maybe advertise your stud or in your horse's name in the messages ! Im absolutely petrified about it all but obviously its something he feels strongly about and as a mum, you have to support them. !!! Please leave a message. Everyone knows someone that has been affected by cancer, and would appreciate any donation for him to jump (gulp gulp ) and land safely. On the cobs front - everyone ok in the snow, although I have gone through most of our winter hay already ! Cant believe how much they have eaten this year. But obviously needed it. Apparently the snow will be all gone by Sunday and I might even be able to start riding again ! yahooo !! Take care H

Welsh Cobs Diary 11 Jan 2010
Here is Saith Magical Angelica in Sweden in the very deep snow. More pictures on her page. Well what a christmas, the weather, the eating and the mucking out ! Great christmas for me, went to brother in laws with Peter and rob, and did nothing but eat and drink and then was ill for 3 days afterwards ! Serves me right ! lol. New Year was brilliant and then my son's (robs) 18th birthday was last friday so its been really busy on the home front. But what about this weather !! Ive been very lucky with my car - trouble is Peter and rob have been pinching it ! The freelander 2 has exceeded my expectations in the snow. Really been pleased with it. The horses - all back together - Dream and Coriander were down the bottom field, but I brought them up as was worrying the natural stream may freeze down there. Gosh it was cold ! All seem fine, got rugs on pepper and Ginger, and already Pepper has lost his in the field somewhere. I thought JB had lammi, but after having the vet out he actually had gravel in his foot - and is much better now. We are going to have his hooves X-rayed to make sure everything is ok, and then hopefully start riding him again - Ive missed the riding so much. Everything is frozen and the roads have been so icy I havent managed a ride in ages. Amber's hooves are improving loads, but she wont be out showing until they are back to normal. Thats if I ever get to ride again ! I was moaning about the rain, but I would rather be riding in the rain than not riding with all the snow and sunshine. ! Saith Sebastian has passed his vetting and Cathy will be picking him up at the end of January. Cathy has been a great help up the farm with helping mucking out and feeding while playing with Seb. He was so good with the vet. Cant believe the foals are now yearlings. Even thought they are only 7 months old now. They say the weather is going to be pretty bad in the next couple of days, but Im hoping it will miss us. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 19 Dec 2009
Wow its Cold !!! Listen to me moan about the rain, moan about the cold ! LOL Today we had a lovely visit from Cathy and Helen. Cathy has been looking for a cob since sadly hers passed away. They came up to see Sebastian and luckily he put all his charms on, and Cathy put a deposit on him. After trial period and vetting (fingers crossed) he will be going to his new home at the end of January 2010. It will be an amazing home for him, lots of walks and things to see and do, which he will love. We are so lucky to find people like Cathy who wants to take time with Seb and let him develop into the stunning horse he will become. Cathy and Helen couldnt even have a cup of Tea as the water was frozen, and we have no box as its still up at John Rose. Steve managed to hobble up and down the field and I left them out in the front field tonight (with access to their haylege) as it was so hard and they all seemed to be happy out there. Luckily the stream is still flowing in the field. Going out tonight, and a busy day tomorrow, giving blood in the morning after the horses have been done, and then sunday lunch and then back up check the horses, and off to a ball on Monday night. Ohhh love christmas. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 12 Dec 2009
Been quiet the last couple of weeks. Sad news about Steve, had his plaster off and then the doctor told him that he now has another 5 months with a splint. Im sure he paid the dr. ! He wont be around until May now, but will have to hobble up and do them in march for a week when I go skiing with my family. Tried Dream a few times last week with harry on her (dummy) and she really was not happy about it all - so thought that I would go back to the original plan of getting amber going and keeping JB going and putting dream back in foal until she is 14 and then bringing her out as a veteran. Did some work with Amber and she was really good. Next week put Harry on her and start taking her out walking. JB is a bit lame. Nothing serious and is getting better each day. Sebastian and JB play constantly in the field and Im wondering if he pulled it a bit. Good news about Saith Black Storm, Lucy won best Newcomer in the Brent Knoll riding club - really pleased about that. Saith Stefhan has a small video of him on our You Tube site. The foals are all shapes at the moment ! Growing so fast :) Just so lovely that its nice today, although I was face painting most of the day for our local village hall - didnt see much of it, but I know it was sunny. :) Still planning to get to the February show with either amber or jb - which should be loads of fun ! Well I ll be laughing, either being galloped off with jb or amber saying ummm bored now what can I do ? LOL Nearly Christmas ! So just in case I forget - have a lovely christmas and new year and really hope that everyone that reads my diary has an amazing 2010. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 30 Nov 2009
Had a lovely weekend away, in the rain (whats new ?) at Juliet's and Adrian's wedding. Lovely wedding and Juliet (owner of Charm and Tiffany) looked absolutely amazing ! Lovely people and had a great time just being with hubby for two whole days. Came back to a house that smelt of beer and couldnt see the kitchen floor ! lol so mucking out at home and mucking out at the farm. All the horses are fine and hopefully doing some more serious work today, robbie (son) lost his phone, and killed his car in the rain ! He went through a puddle a bit too fast. So back to transporting him all around. He had a good time though and no damage to the house - phew!! Had a lovely photo from Maureen (owner of Saith Revels Mojoe) of Joe's head in the NPS show. Talking of which, Saith Black Storm came 1st in hand at Avon & borders show on the weekend and 2nd in the Mountain and Moorland, beaten by a fell stallion. Lucy was over the moon with him. They couldnt stay for the championship or the ridden as Lucy was going somewhere. Lucy has also been asked to represent her local area in dressage with Storm. Such an achievement considering they have only been together for a short time. :) :) Angelica has settled in well and hopefully some up-dated photos to come over from Sweden soon. Camilla is really pleased with her and Im so relieved ! So nearly December - what a year - its flown by. Steve will be having his plaster off in a week and then hopefully doing alot of physio and losing weight. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 24 Nov 2009
BRILLIANT NEWS !!! Saith Magical Angelica (pictured here at a month old) has arrived in Sweden with Camilla. Oh boy I am so pleased and a day early !! Camilla was in work, so rushed home a bit early and rang me straight away. She has turned up in excellent condition (thank you Owen and the Nebo stud) and Camilla is over the moon with her. That was my biggest worry was that Camilla wouldnt like her in the flesh, as she bought her unseen, but my fears were dispelled as Camilla was very pleased with her. Now I can relax. Have been worried about her. Camilla said she was going to sleep with her tonight ! LOL Just so happy now. She has got there in one piece and in this wind and weather !! Im just so happy. !! :) :) Good luck to her and Camilla and Ulf, I hope she enjoys her as much as steve and I did. H
